Less Seats Equaling Higher Airfare Prices to Hawaii

The USA Today has an interesting article out about how the prices for airfare to Hawaii are going up with there being less seats to sell. Some interesting numbers from the article are that from June to August, airlines have scheduled 14% fewer seats than last year between the mainland USA and Hawaii. Add this to rising fuel cost we can see why it may cost over $700 per person to fly from Los Angeles to Honolulu and why prices now for Hawaii travel are up 9% from last year. As a result of less people traveling to Hawaii some hotels in Hawaii have a total occupancy of 40% which is extremely low for the summer period. Hopefully things can turnaround for the sake of the Hawaii economy.
