According to a new AAA survey, Hawaii is the most expensive state to vacation in with it costing 2 adults an average of $793 a day for lodging and food.
Hawaii State tourism officials have now come out and say that the figure given by AAA was to high for Hawaii travel arguing the more accurate estimate was about half that amount. AAA’s recommended daily budget for visitors to Hawaii is triple the national average of $244.
The thing that helped AAA come up with such a high number was the fact that they estimate that accommodations in Hawaii are at an average of $675 a night which makes Hawaii the most expensive in the nation. The national average is $164 per night.
Hawaii tourism officials have said that the daily expenditures this year for a tourist in Hawaii has averaged about $179 per person, or $358 for a couple. Main reason for the lower prices is that most of the best attractions like the beaches and the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor are free and there average pricing on hotels were higher.
AAA said the lodging rates were calculated based on the most recent published rates for the more than 60,000 AAA approved properties. The published rates are the full price of hotel or motel room which is what most people actually DON’T pay any ways
Even though the numbers may vary to what the actual cost maybe, it is well known that a Hawaii trip cost will be up there but from everyone I know they all come out saying how great it is to travel to Hawaii even with the prices. If I had to agree with either the new AAA survey or the Hawaii Tourism officials, I would have to agree with the Hawaii Tourism officials since they have more of the facts in hand plus I think there average rate for a hotel is way to high than what I’ve been seeing people pay.
